Background
Gayfield Square is a valuable community park surrounded by classic New Town buildings in one of the busiest parts of the city at the top of Leith Walk. Trees found in the park include elm, sycamore, hawthorn, almond, ash, whitebeam, birch and rowan.
History and heritage
Edinburgh Corporation assumed custody and management of the ground in 1886 under the powers of the Edinburgh Municipal Police Act of 1879.
