details of rules for allotment holders

Welcome to the allotment community! To ensure a safe and rewarding experience for all plot holders, please follow these essential rules and regulations.

Shared Responsibilities

As a plot holder, you share the responsibility for maintaining communal areas, including paths, hedges, and walkways. These must be cared for just as diligently as your own plot. You are also responsible for the upkeep of any structures on your plot, including sheds and raised beds.

Cultivation

  • Cultivation Requirement: At least 75% of your plot must be cultivated at all times.
  • Healthy Crops: Keep crops well-stocked and in good health.
  • Weed Management: Unplanted areas must be weed-free and managed properly.
  • Organic Practices: Only organic cultivation is permitted; the use of chemicals is not allowed.

Regular site inspections will occur.

Site rules

Site-Specific Rules: Adhere to any specific rules for your site. Contact your site representative if unsure.

Dogs

  • Policy: Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead.
  • Responsibility: Ensure your dog does not disturb others and clean up any waste.

Livestock

Prohibited: Keeping livestock, including bees, is not allowed.

Bonfires

  • Permitted Months: Bonfires are not allowed from 1st May to 1st September.
  • Composting: Compost plant material and weeds on site.
  • Burning Restrictions: Only burn plant material from your plot. Do not burn prohibited materials like plastics or treated wood.
  • Consideration: Plan bonfires with respect for others and never leave them unattended.

Trees

Regulations: Only fruit trees may be cultivated. You must agree to remove any trees over 7.5 cm in diameter if requested by the Council.

Water conservation

Use water responsibly and consider measures like mulching to reduce moisture loss.

Polytunnels

  • Size Restrictions: Only smaller polytunnels (9x6 ft) are allowed.
  • Installation Permission: Obtain permission from the allotment officer and consult adjacent plot holders before installation.
