Allotments

Allotments are a wonderful tool to allow individuals and communities to grow their own food, fostering a connection to nature and promoting sustainability. They provide spaces for relaxation, physical activity, and social interaction, enhancing mental well-being and encouraging the sharing of knowledge and resources within a vibrant community.

Seeking New Land for Allotments

Please note, recently there has been a significant increase in the number of applications for allotments with one factor identified as being the consequence of the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Lockdown has resulted in more people wishing to be outdoors in the natural environment. The waiting list for an allotment was 2,310 in March 2020 (140% of allocation) this increased to 5,658 in November 2021 (352% of allocation).

The demand for allotments in Edinburgh far exceeds the available supply, leading to long waiting times. The City of Edinburgh Council is dedicated to expanding green spaces and increasing allotment opportunities for the community. We appreciate your patience as we work to address this growing need.

Landowners

We are actively looking to expand the number of allotment sites. If you are a private landowner interested in establishing allotments on your property, we would be thrilled to collaborate with you.

Additionally, we welcome connections with community groups to explore potential allotment sites. Your partnership can play a vital role in enhancing our allotment offerings in Edinburgh.
