History and heritage Geddes Gardens is part of a network of inner city gardens. Sir Patrick Geddes was a Scottish biologist, sociologist, geographer, philanthropist and pioneering town planner. He is known for his innovative thinking in the fields of urban planning and sociology. Geddes was keenly interested in the science of ecology, an advocate of nature conservation and strongly opposed to environmental pollution.
